Technician exam question T1E02
Subelement T1, COMMISSION’S RULES· Group T1E · 47 CFR §97.301, 97.207(c)
Who may be the control operator of a station communicating through an amateur satellite or space station?
- A.Only an Amateur Extra Class operator
- B.A General class or higher licensee with a satellite operator certification
- C.Only an Amateur Extra Class operator who is also an AMSAT member
- D.Any amateur allowed to transmit on the satellite uplink frequency (correct answer)
WhyAny amateur allowed to transmit on the satellite uplink frequency may be the control operator of a station communicating through an amateur satellite or space station. §97.301 and §97.207(c) let any amateur operator whose license class covers the satellite's uplink frequency serve as control operator for that satellite or space station contact, no special satellite certification or Extra-class requirement involved, answer D. A, B, and C all invent extra qualifications, an Extra-class requirement, an AMSAT membership, a certification program, that the rule doesn't impose.
