Technician exam question T1E01
Subelement T1, COMMISSION’S RULES· Group T1E · 47 CFR §97.7(a)
When may an amateur station transmit without a control operator?
- A.When using automatic control, such as in the case of a repeater
- B.When the station licensee is away and another licensed amateur is using the station
- C.When the transmitting station is an auxiliary station
- D.Never (correct answer)
WhyAn amateur station may never transmit without a control operator. §97.7(a) requires every transmission from an amateur station to have a control operator, even automatic and remote systems have one designated, they're never truly unsupervised in the eyes of the rule, answer D, never. A misreads automatic control as meaning "no control operator" when it actually just changes who's allowed to serve that role and how directly they must supervise, and B and C both describe ordinary operation that still requires a control operator, not an exception to the requirement.
