73·STUDY

Privacy Policy

73 Study ("we," "us," "this site") is an independent, unincorporated study site for the US amateur radio license exams, operated by a single individual under the "73 Study" name. No personal name, home address, or personal phone number is published anywhere on this site, and none is collected as part of running it. This policy explains what data this site and the services it relies on actually collect, why, and what choices you have.

The short version

There's no account and no server-side database. Practice history and exam scores live only in your browser's localStorage and are never sent to us. The only personal data that reaches us at all comes from three places: your web browser making a request to our host, this site's contact form, and, if you buy the paid tier, Lemon Squeezy's checkout and license system. Each is covered in detail below.

Data that never leaves your device

Every practice attempt, exam score, and per-subelement accuracy stat is written directly to localStorage in your browser. This site has no backend and no database to send that data to, so it isn't sent anywhere, we don't see it, and we can't recover it for you if you clear your browser data. If you unlock the paid tier, the unlock state (a Lemon Squeezy-issued activation id, described below) is stored the same way, locally, per browser.

Hosting and standard request logs

This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like essentially any web host, Cloudflare's infrastructure processes standard technical request data as part of serving every page, things like IP address, browser and device type, requested URL, and timestamp, for security, abuse prevention, and reliability. We don't run our own separate analytics or tracking script, and we don't receive this data as individually identifiable records ourselves; it's handled under Cloudflare's own privacy practices. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy for details.

If you use the contact form

The Contact Us page is a plain form, not a mailto link to a published address, specifically so we can take messages without publishing a personal email address anywhere on the site. Submitting it sends whatever you type, your name, your reply-to email address, the topic you select, and your message, to Web3Forms, a third-party form-processing service, which relays it to us by email and does not publish or sell submissions. Per Web3Forms' own published policy, submission data is stored on their infrastructure (AWS-hosted, encrypted at rest) for a limited retention period before deletion, and Web3Forms acts as a data processor on our behalf, not an independent user of your data. We only use what you send to reply to you; we don't add contact-form senders to any mailing list.

If you buy the paid tier

The paid tier (full exam simulation and the spaced-repetition review queue) is sold and fulfilled by Lemon Squeezy, acting as merchant of record. When you click through to buy, you leave this site for Lemon Squeezy's own hosted checkout page, and your name, email, and payment details are collected and processed entirely by Lemon Squeezy (and its payment processor); we never receive or store your card details. Lemon Squeezy sends you a license key by email.

Entering that license key on our /unlock/ page makes a request directly from your browser to Lemon Squeezy's License API to confirm it's valid and to activate it for that browser or device, this request goes straight from your browser to Lemon Squeezy, not through any server of ours. The result, your license key and a Lemon Squeezy-issued activation id, is then stored in your browser's localStorage so this browser stays unlocked. A single purchase can be activated on up to five browsers or devices; re-entering the same key on a new one activates it there too, it doesn't create a new purchase or charge.

Analytics (Google Analytics)

This site uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand aggregate traffic and usage, which pages get visited, roughly how many people study each license class, whether the contact form gets used, that kind of thing. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects standard analytics data (pages viewed, approximate location from IP, device and browser type, referring site) via a script that runs in your browser on every page, including /progress/; it recording that page was visited is the same as it recording any other page visit, it does not read or transmit anything from your browser's localStorage, so your practice history, scores, and review queue stay exactly as private as described above; Google Analytics has no access to them. See Google's Privacy Policy and, for opting out, Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

As of this policy's last update, this site does not yet serve any ads. The page layout has reserved, fixed-height ad slots built in advance (so turning ads on later won't shift any content around), but no advertising network is connected yet. This section describes what will apply once Google AdSense is activated, so the policy stays accurate rather than needing a rewrite the moment it is:

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, and you can opt out of a number of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info. More detail on how Google uses information from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Google requires publishers serving personalized ads to visitors in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland to use a consent management platform certified under its EU User Consent Policy. That isn't built yet. Ads will not be enabled for visitors in those regions, or will be limited to non-personalized ads only, until that's in place.

Affiliate links (Amazon Associates)

The Gear page contains Amazon affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases made through those links, at no extra cost to you. Clicking one takes you to Amazon's own site, where Amazon's standard cookies and tracking apply to attribute the purchase to us; we don't receive any personal information about you from Amazon as a result, only aggregate commission reporting. See Amazon's own Privacy Notice for how they handle data collected on their site.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Amateur radio license candidates using this site are typically teenagers or adults studying for an FCC exam.

We don't sell your data

We have no advertising network of our own, no data broker relationships, and nothing to sell. The only parties who see any of your data are the ones named above (Cloudflare, Web3Forms, Lemon Squeezy, Google Analytics, Amazon, and, once active, Google AdSense), each acting in the specific, limited role described.

Your choices

You can clear your browser's local storage at any time to remove all practice history, scores, and unlock state; there's no account to delete because none exists. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (for example, under GDPR or CCPA) to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data a service has about you; since this site itself stores nothing about you server-side, such a request would be directed to whichever third party actually holds it (Web3Forms for a contact-form submission, Lemon Squeezy for a purchase). We're happy to help point you to the right place, contact us using the form below.

Changes to this policy

If what this site collects or who it shares data with changes, for example when advertising is actually turned on, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will change. We won't remove a disclosure just because it's become inconvenient.

Questions about this policy, or a request related to your data, can be sent through our Contact Us page.
