General exam question G2A01
Subelement G2, OPERATING PROCEDURES· Group G2A
Which mode is most commonly used for voice communications on frequencies of 14 MHz or higher?
- A.Upper sideband (correct answer)
- B.Lower sideband
- C.Suppressed sideband
- D.Double sideband
WhyUpper sideband is the amateur convention for voice communications on frequencies of 14 MHz and above. Amateur convention puts voice operation on 14 MHz and above on upper sideband, regardless of band, which is why 20, 17, 15, 12, and 10 meters all use USB for SSB phone, answer A. Lower sideband, not upper, is the convention below that point, and neither "suppressed sideband" nor "double sideband" is what most HF SSB voice work is called.
