What logical operation is performed by a two-input exclusive NOR gate?
- A.It produces a 0 at its output only if all inputs are 0
- B.It produces a 1 at its output only if all inputs are 1
- C.It produces a 0 at its output if one and only one of its inputs is 1 (correct answer)
- D.It produces a 1 at its output if one and only one input is 1
WhyA two-input exclusive NOR gate produces a 0 at its output if one and only one of its inputs is 1. A two-input exclusive NOR (XNOR) gate outputs a 0 whenever exactly one, and only one, of its two inputs is a 1, since XNOR outputs a 1 when the inputs match and a 0 when they differ, and having exactly one input high means the inputs disagree, answer C. It doesn't output 0 only when both inputs are 0 (that case actually gives a 1, since both inputs match), and it doesn't output 1 when exactly one input is 1, that describes plain XOR, not XNOR.
