How many flip-flops are required to divide a signal frequency by 16?
- A.4 (correct answer)
- B.6
- C.8
- D.16
WhyDividing a signal frequency by 16 requires 4 flip-flops. Each flip-flop in a chain divides the incoming frequency by 2, so dividing by 16, which is 2 to the 4th power, requires 4 flip-flops in a row, answer A. Using 6, 8, or 16 flip-flops would divide by a much larger factor than 16.
