E7A03
Which of the following can divide the frequency of a pulse train by 2?
- A.An XOR gate
- B.A flip-flop (correct answer)
- C.An OR gate
- D.A multiplexer
WhyA flip-flop can divide the frequency of a pulse train by 2. A flip-flop toggles its output state once for every two input pulses, which makes it a natural divide-by-2 circuit, and chaining several flip-flops together divides by higher powers of two, answer B. An XOR or OR gate has no memory and can't divide a pulse train's frequency on its own, and a multiplexer just selects between inputs, it doesn't divide frequency either.
