Technician exam question T8A01
Subelement T8, SIGNALS AND EMISSIONS· Group T8A
Which of the following is a form of amplitude modulation?
- A.Spread spectrum
- B.Packet radio
- C.Single sideband (correct answer)
- D.Phase shift keying (PSK)
WhySingle sideband is a form of amplitude modulation. Single sideband is produced by suppressing one sideband and the carrier from a double-sideband AM signal, so it's fundamentally still a form of amplitude modulation, just a more efficient variant of it, answer C. Spread spectrum (A) and PSK (D) vary a signal's frequency or phase rather than its amplitude, and packet radio (B) is a data protocol that can ride on top of several different modulation types, not a modulation method itself.
