Technician exam question T3A10
Subelement T3, RADIO WAVE PROPAGATION· Group T3A
What effect does multi-path propagation have on data transmissions?
- A.Transmission rates must be increased by a factor equal to the number of separate paths observed
- B.Transmission rates must be decreased by a factor equal to the number of separate paths observed
- C.No significant changes will occur if the signals are transmitted using FM
- D.Error rates are likely to increase (correct answer)
WhyMulti-path propagation is likely to increase error rates in data transmissions. When a signal arrives via multiple paths of slightly different length, the copies arrive at slightly different times and can interfere with or smear each other, which is especially disruptive to digital data, where bits can get corrupted or blurred together, raising the error rate, answer D. Multipath doesn't require or benefit from deliberately changing your transmission rate (A, B), and FM (C) is not immune to multipath, it too suffers audible or data-corrupting effects from it.
