Subelement T2, OPERATING PROCEDURES· Group T2A
What is an appropriate way to call another station on a repeater if you know the other station's call sign?
- A.Say "break, break," then the other station’s call sign, followed by your call sign
- B.Say the station's call sign, then identify with your call sign (correct answer)
- C.Say "CQ" three times, then the other station's call sign, followed by your call sign
- D.Wait for the station to call CQ, then answer with your call sign
WhyTo call another station on a repeater when you know its call sign, say the station's call sign, then identify with your own. When you already know the call sign of the station you want to reach on a repeater, the efficient approach is to say their call sign first so they know they're being addressed, then identify yourself with your own call sign, answer B. Calling CQ (choice C) is for seeking any station, not a specific known one, "break, break" (choice A) is reserved for interrupting an in-progress conversation, typically for an emergency, and simply waiting for them to call CQ first (choice D) isn't necessary when you can just call them directly.
