Technician exam question T2A01
Subelement T2, OPERATING PROCEDURES· Group T2A
What is a common repeater frequency offset in the 2-meter band?
- A.Plus or minus 5 MHz
- B.Plus or minus 600 kHz (correct answer)
- C.Plus or minus 500 kHz
- D.Plus or minus 1 MHz
WhyA common repeater frequency offset in the 2-meter band is plus or minus 600 kHz. Repeaters listen and transmit at the same time on two different frequencies, spaced far enough apart that the receiver's front end doesn't hear its own nearby transmitter; that spacing is the offset. On the 2-meter band the widely used convention is plus or minus 600 kHz, answer B. The other values don't match that band's convention; plus or minus 5 MHz is actually the standard offset on 70 centimeters, covered in the next question.
