Technician exam question T1C11
Subelement T1, COMMISSION’S RULES· Group T1C · 47 CFR §97.21(b)
If your license has expired and is still within the allowable grace period, may you continue to transmit on the amateur radio bands?
- A.Yes, for up to two years
- B.Yes, as soon as you apply for renewal
- C.Yes, for up to one year
- D.No, you must wait until the license has been renewed (correct answer)
WhyIf your license has expired but is still within the grace period, you may not transmit until the license has actually been renewed. §97.21(b) makes clear that the two-year grace period only preserves your ability to renew without retesting, it does not restore any transmitting privileges. Once the license has expired, you may not transmit again until the FCC actually processes the renewal, answer D. A, B, and C all wrongly assume some transmitting privilege continues during the grace period or as soon as you merely apply.
