Technician exam question T1C02
Subelement T1, COMMISSION’S RULES· Group T1C · 47 CFR §97.19
Who may select a desired call sign under the vanity call sign rules?
- A.Only a licensed amateur with a General or Amateur Extra Class license
- B.Only a licensed amateur with an Amateur Extra Class license
- C.Only a licensed amateur who has been licensed continuously for more than 10 years
- D.Any licensed amateur (correct answer)
WhyAny licensed amateur may select a desired call sign under the vanity call sign rules. §97.19 opens the vanity call sign system to any licensed amateur, not just higher classes or long-tenured operators, answer D. What call signs you're eligible to request is tied to your license class (a Technician can't request an Extra-class-format 1x2 call, for instance), but the ability to participate in the vanity system itself isn't restricted the way A, B, and C claim.
