General exam question G2C04

G2C04
What does the Q signal “QRL?” mean?
- A.“Will you keep the frequency clear?”
- B.“Are you operating full break-in?” or “Can you operate full break-in?”
- C.“Are you listening only for a specific station?”
- D.“Are you busy?” or “Is this frequency in use?” (correct answer)
WhyThe Q signal QRL? asks whether a frequency is busy or already in use. "QRL?" asks whether the frequency is already in use, exactly the CW equivalent of asking "is this frequency in use?" before calling CQ, answer D. It doesn't ask about keeping the frequency clear going forward, doesn't ask about break-in capability, and doesn't ask whether the other station is listening for someone specific.
