General exam question G1D12
Subelement G1, COMMISSION’S RULES· Group G1D · 47 CFR §97.507
When operating a station in South America by remote control over the internet from the US, what regulations apply?
- A.Those of both the remote station’s country and the FCC
- B.Those of the remote station’s country and the FCC’s third-party regulations
- C.Only those of the remote station’s country (correct answer)
- D.Only those of the FCC
WhyOperating a station in South America by remote control over the internet from the US is governed only by that country's own regulations. §97.507 applies the remote station's own country's regulations to a station operated by remote control from that country, even when the control operator is physically in the US, answer C. FCC rules don't reach out to govern a station that's physically located and licensed in another country, and there's no third-party-regulation overlay on top of the local rules here.
