General exam question G1D05
Subelement G1, COMMISSION’S RULES· Group G1D · 47 CFR §97.7
When operating a US station by remote control from outside the country, what license is required of the control operator?
- A.A US operator/primary station license (correct answer)
- B.Only an appropriate US operator/primary license and a special remote station permit from the FCC
- C.Only a license from the foreign country, as long as the call sign includes identification of portable operation in the US
- D.A license from the foreign country and a special remote station permit from the FCC
WhyA control operator running a US station by remote control from outside the country must hold a US operator/primary station license. §97.7 requires a control operator running a US station by remote control from outside the country to hold a US operator/primary station license, the same license that would be required operating from inside the US, answer A. There's no special remote station permit layered on top, and a foreign license alone doesn't authorize control of a US-licensed station.
