General exam question G1D06
Subelement G1, COMMISSION’S RULES· Group G1D · 47 CFR §97.119(f)(2)
Until an upgrade to General class is shown in the FCC database, when must a Technician licensee identify with “AG” after their call sign?
- A.Whenever they operate using General class frequency privileges (correct answer)
- B.Whenever they operate on any amateur frequency
- C.Whenever they operate using Technician frequency privileges
- D.A special identifier is not required if their General class license application has been filed with the FCC
WhyA Technician licensee must identify with AG after their call sign only while actually using General class frequency privileges granted by an unexpired CSCE. §97.119(f)(2) requires the "AG" identifier only while a Technician licensee is actually using the new General class privileges their unexpired CSCE grants, not on every transmission regardless of band, answer A. Filing the upgrade application with the FCC doesn't remove the identification requirement, the CSCE holder still has to signal which privileges they're operating under until the upgrade posts.
