General exam question G1A11
Subelement G1, COMMISSION’S RULES· Group G1A · 47 CFR §97.301
When General class licensees are not permitted to use the entire voice portion of a band, which portion of the voice segment is available to them?
- A.The lower frequency portion
- B.The upper frequency portion (correct answer)
- C.The lower frequency portion on frequencies below 7.3 MHz, and the upper portion on frequencies above 14.150 MHz
- D.The upper frequency portion on frequencies below 7.3 MHz, and the lower portion on frequencies above 14.150 MHz
WhyWhere General class licensees don't get a band's entire phone segment, the portion available to them sits at the upper end of that segment. On every HF band where General doesn't get the whole phone segment, the slice reserved for General sits at the top of the band's phone allocation, with the narrower Extra-exclusive segment just below it, answer B. This holds the same way on every affected band regardless of the specific frequency, so the frequency-dependent split described in C and D, upper on some bands and lower on others, doesn't match how §97.301 actually allocates the bands.
