General exam question G1A01
Subelement G1, COMMISSION’S RULES· Group G1A · 47 CFR §97.301(d)
On which HF and/or MF amateur bands are there portions where General class licensees cannot transmit?
- A.60 meters, 30 meters, 17 meters, and 12 meters
- B.160 meters, 60 meters, 15 meters, and 12 meters
- C.80 meters, 40 meters, 20 meters, and 15 meters (correct answer)
- D.80 meters, 20 meters, 15 meters, and 10 meters
WhyGeneral class licensees are locked out of parts of the 80, 40, 20, and 15 meter bands, the segments reserved for Amateur Extra control operators under FCC §97.301(d). FCC §97.301(d) splits four HF bands, 80, 40, 20, and 15 meters, between General and Amateur Extra privileges, with a lower CW/data segment reserved for Extra class control operators only, answer C. The other three bands (60, 30, 17, 12 meters) are WARC bands with no Extra-exclusive carve-out, and 160 and 10 meters are open to General across the entire band, so none of the other option groupings matches the actual four-band split.
