How does ARQ accomplish error correction?
- A.Special binary codes provide automatic correction
- B.Special polynomial codes provide automatic correction
- C.If errors are detected, redundant data is substituted
- D.If errors are detected, a retransmission is requested (correct answer)
WhyARQ accomplishes error correction by requesting a retransmission if errors are detected. ARQ, Automatic Repeat reQuest, accomplishes error correction by having the receiving station request a retransmission whenever it detects an error in the received data, rather than trying to correct the error using redundant information already in hand, answer D. It doesn't rely on special binary or polynomial codes to auto-correct errors on the spot, and it doesn't substitute in redundant data, that describes forward error correction, a different technique from ARQ.
