What technique minimizes the bandwidth of a PSK31 signal?
- A.Zero-sum character encoding
- B.Reed-Solomon character encoding
- C.Use of sinusoidal data pulses (correct answer)
- D.Use of linear data pulses
WhyPSK31 minimizes its bandwidth by using sinusoidal data pulses. PSK31 minimizes its bandwidth by using sinusoidal (smoothly shaped) data pulses rather than sharp-edged rectangular ones, avoiding the wide sideband splatter abrupt transitions would otherwise generate, answer C. "Zero-sum character encoding" and "Reed-Solomon character encoding" aren't real techniques used for this purpose, and linear (as opposed to sinusoidal) data pulses would actually widen the bandwidth, not minimize it.
