What is the bandwidth of a 4,800-Hz frequency shift, 9,600-baud ASCII FM transmission?
- A.15.36 kHz (correct answer)
- B.9.6 kHz
- C.4.8 kHz
- D.5.76 kHz
WhyA 4,800-Hz frequency shift, 9,600-baud ASCII FM transmission has a bandwidth of about 15.36 kHz. A common approximation for FSK bandwidth adds the baud rate to 1.2 times the frequency shift: 9,600 baud plus 1.2 times 4,800 Hz of shift works out to 9,600 plus 5,760, or 15,360 Hz, 15.36 kHz, answer A. The other figures come from using only the shift, only the baud rate, or a different combination of the two values instead of this fuller calculation.
