What is tri-state logic?
- A.Logic devices with 0, 1, and high-impedance output states (correct answer)
- B.Logic devices that utilize ternary math
- C.Logic with three output impedances which can be selected to better match the load impedance
- D.A counter with eight states
WhyTri-state logic devices have 0, 1, and high-impedance output states. Tri-state logic devices can drive their output to a logic 0, a logic 1, or a third, high-impedance state that effectively disconnects the output from the circuit, useful for letting multiple devices share a common bus without conflict, answer A. It has nothing to do with ternary (base-3) math, isn't about selecting among different output impedances to match a load, and isn't a description of an eight-state counter.
