What is the resonant frequency of an RLC circuit if R is 33 ohms, L is 50 microhenries, and C is 10 picofarads?
- A.7.12 MHz (correct answer)
- B.23.5 kHz
- C.7.12 kHz
- D.23.5 MHz
WhyAn RLC circuit with 50 microhenries of inductance and 10 picofarads of capacitance resonates at about 7.12 MHz. Using f equals 1 divided by 2 pi times the square root of L times C, with L at 50 microhenries and C at 10 picofarads, the square root of their product is about 2.24 times 10^-8, giving a resonant frequency of approximately 7.12 MHz, answer A. The kilohertz-range answers are off by three orders of magnitude, and 23.5 MHz doesn't match this particular L and C combination.
