What is the result of increasing the Q of an impedance-matching circuit?
- A.Matching bandwidth is decreased (correct answer)
- B.Matching bandwidth is increased
- C.Losses increase
- D.Harmonics increase
WhyIncreasing the Q of an impedance-matching circuit decreases its matching bandwidth. Raising the Q of an impedance-matching circuit narrows the range of frequencies over which the match stays effective, so matching bandwidth decreases as Q increases, a direct tradeoff between how sharply tuned a match is and how wide a frequency range it covers well, answer A. Matching bandwidth doesn't increase with higher Q, and higher Q by itself doesn't inherently raise losses or harmonic content, those depend on other factors in the matching network's design.
