What is the received signal level with a transmit power of 10 W (+40 dBm), a transmit antenna gain of 6 dBi, a receive antenna gain of 3 dBi, and a path loss of 100 dB?
- A.-51 dBm (correct answer)
- B.-54 dBm
- C.-57 dBm
- D.-60 dBm
WhyA system with 10 W transmit power, 6 dBi transmit antenna gain, 3 dBi receive antenna gain, and 100 dB path loss has a received signal level of -51 dBm. Received signal level is transmit power plus transmit antenna gain plus receive antenna gain minus path loss: +40 dBm + 6 dB + 3 dB - 100 dB works out to -51 dBm, answer A. Leaving out one of the antenna gain terms, or subtracting instead of adding a gain figure, would produce one of the other, lower listed values instead of the correct -51 dBm.
