Technician exam question T9A10
Subelement T9, ANTENNAS AND FEED LINES· Group T9A
In which direction does a half-wave dipole antenna radiate the strongest signal?
- A.Equally in all directions
- B.Off the ends of the antenna
- C.In the direction of the feed line
- D.Broadside to the antenna (correct answer)
WhyA half-wave dipole antenna radiates its strongest signal broadside to the antenna. A half-wave dipole radiates its strongest signal broadside, perpendicular to the wire itself, and radiates very little off the two ends, answer D. It doesn't radiate equally in all directions (A, that describes an isotropic antenna), it radiates weakly, not strongly, off the ends (B), and the feed line's direction isn't what determines the antenna's radiation pattern (C).
