Technician exam question T3B01
Subelement T3, RADIO WAVE PROPAGATION· Group T3B
What is the relationship between the electric and magnetic fields of an electromagnetic wave?
- A.They travel at different speeds
- B.They are in parallel
- C.They revolve in opposite directions
- D.They are at right angles (correct answer)
WhyAn electromagnetic wave's electric and magnetic fields are at right angles to each other. An electromagnetic wave consists of an electric field and a magnetic field oscillating together, each generating the other as the wave propagates, and by definition they're oriented perpendicular to each other, at right angles, answer D. They travel at the same speed, not different ones (A), they aren't parallel (B), and they don't revolve in opposite directions (C), that description doesn't match how the two fields relate.
