Technician exam question T1D05
Subelement T1, COMMISSION’S RULES· Group T1D · 47 CFR §97.113(a)(3)(ii)
When may amateur radio operators use their stations to notify other amateurs of the availability of equipment for sale or trade?
- A.Never
- B.When the equipment is not the personal property of either the station licensee, or the control operator, or their close relatives
- C.When no profit is made on the sale
- D.When selling amateur radio equipment and not on a regular basis (correct answer)
WhyAmateur radio operators may notify other amateurs of equipment for sale or trade when selling amateur radio equipment and not doing so on a regular basis. §97.113(a)(3)(ii) permits hams to announce amateur equipment for sale or trade over the air, as long as it's occasional rather than a regular, business-like pattern, which is what separates ordinary ham chatter about gear from operating an unlicensed radio business, answer D. B's ownership restriction and C's no-profit condition aren't actually in the rule, and "never" (A) ignores that this specific, limited-frequency use is allowed.
