Vanity call sign

A call sign you specifically request, instead of the sequentially-assigned one the FCC gives you by default, usually to get a shorter call, one that spells something, or one previously held by a family member. Requesting a vanity call sign incurs the FCC's $35 application fee, the same fee charged for new licenses.
