General exam question G9D03
Subelement G9, ANTENNAS AND FEED LINES· Group G9D
In which direction is the maximum radiation from a VHF/UHF “halo” antenna?
- A.Broadside to the plane of the halo
- B.Opposite the feed point
- C.Omnidirectional in the plane of the halo (correct answer)
- D.On the same side as the feed point
WhyMaximum radiation from a VHF/UHF halo antenna is omnidirectional in the plane of the halo. A halo antenna is essentially a dipole bent into a near-complete loop and mounted horizontally, and like other horizontal loop-style antennas it radiates fairly evenly in every azimuthal direction within its horizontal plane, answer C. It isn't a narrow broadside pattern, doesn't radiate specifically opposite the feed point, and doesn't favor the feed-point side, so A, B, and D are wrong.
