General exam question G7B02
Subelement G7, PRACTICAL CIRCUITS· Group G7B
Which of these classes of amplifiers has the highest efficiency?
- A.Class A
- B.Class B
- C.Class AB
- D.Class C (correct answer)
WhyClass C amplifiers have the highest efficiency of the common amplifier classes. Class C bias only lets the active device conduct for a small slice of each RF cycle, which wastes far less energy as heat than the other classes and gives Class C the highest efficiency of the group, answer D. Class A conducts the full cycle and is the least efficient, and Class B and AB fall in between, more efficient than A but still well below Class C's efficiency.
