How is an LED biased when emitting light?
- A.In the tunnel-effect region
- B.At the Zener voltage
- C.Reverse biased
- D.Forward biased (correct answer)
WhyAn LED is forward biased when it is emitting light. An LED emits light when current flows through its p-n junction in the forward direction, with carriers recombining across the junction and releasing energy as photons, so it must be forward biased to emit light, answer D. It isn't operated in a tunnel-effect region, at a Zener breakdown voltage, or reverse biased, those describe other diode behaviors that don't produce light emission.
