General exam question G6A01
Subelement G6, CIRCUIT COMPONENTS· Group G6A
What is the minimum allowable discharge voltage for maximum life of a standard 12-volt lead-acid battery?
- A.6 volts
- B.8.5 volts
- C.10.5 volts (correct answer)
- D.12 volts
WhyA standard 12-volt lead-acid battery should not be discharged below about 10.5 volts for maximum life. A standard 12-volt lead-acid battery shouldn't be discharged below about 10.5 volts, discharging further accelerates plate sulfation and shortens the battery's usable life, answer C. The lower voltages in A and B represent much deeper discharge than is safe, and 12 volts is close to the battery's nominal resting voltage, not a discharge limit.
