How many watts are consumed when a current of 7.0 milliamperes flows through a 1,250-ohm resistance?
- A.Approximately 61 milliwatts (correct answer)
- B.Approximately 61 watts
- C.Approximately 11 milliwatts
- D.Approximately 11 watts
WhyA current of 7.0 milliamperes flowing through a 1,250-ohm resistance consumes approximately 61 milliwatts. Power dissipated by a resistor can be found from P = I²R, so 0.007 amperes squared (0.000049) times 1,250 ohms works out to about 0.061 watt, or roughly 61 milliwatts, answer A. B is off by a factor of 1,000 (watts instead of milliwatts), and C and D don't match the calculation at all.
