General exam question G2B05
Subelement G2, OPERATING PROCEDURES· Group G2B
When selecting an SSB transmitting frequency, what minimum separation should be used to minimize interference to stations on adjacent frequencies?
- A.5 Hz to 50 Hz
- B.150 Hz to 500 Hz
- C.2 kHz to 3 kHz (correct answer)
- D.Approximately 6 kHz
WhySSB stations should use a minimum separation of about 2 kHz to 3 kHz to avoid interfering with adjacent frequencies. SSB signals are considerably wider than CW, so the accepted minimum separation is correspondingly larger, roughly 2 to 3 kHz, answer C. The narrower spacing in A and B fits CW, not voice bandwidth, and D's flat 6 kHz overstates what's typically needed.
