Where is the impedance of a pure resistance plotted on rectangular coordinates?
- A.On the vertical axis
- B.On a line through the origin, slanted at 45 degrees
- C.On a horizontal line, offset vertically above the horizontal axis
- D.On the horizontal axis (correct answer)
WhyThe impedance of a pure resistance plots on the horizontal axis of rectangular coordinates. A pure resistance, having no reactive (imaginary) component at all, plots directly on the horizontal axis of a rectangular impedance chart, since its imaginary part is zero, answer D. It doesn't sit on the vertical axis, that's reserved for pure reactance, and it isn't found on a 45-degree line or offset above the horizontal axis, those describe impedances with both resistive and reactive components present.
