Subelement E1, COMMISSION RULES· Group E1F · 47 CFR §97.107
What privileges are authorized in the US to persons holding an amateur service license granted by the government of Canada?
- A.None, they must obtain a US license
- B.Full privileges of the General class license on the 80-, 40-, 20-, 15-, and 10-meter bands
- C.The operating terms and conditions of the Canadian amateur service license, not to exceed US Amateur Extra class license privileges (correct answer)
- D.Full privileges, up to and including those of the Amateur Extra class license, on the 80-, 40-, 20-, 15-, and 10-meter bands
WhyA person holding a Canadian amateur service license may operate in the US under the terms and conditions of that Canadian license, capped at the privileges of a US Amateur Extra class license. §97.107 grants a person holding a Canadian amateur service license operating privileges in the US matching the terms and conditions of their Canadian license, capped at whatever privileges a US Amateur Extra class license would carry, answer C. It doesn't require the Canadian operator to obtain a separate US license, and it doesn't flatly grant either full General class or full Extra class privileges regardless of what the Canadian license actually authorizes.
