Extra exam question E1A11
Subelement E1, COMMISSION RULES· Group E1A · 47 CFR §97.5
What licensing is required when operating an amateur station aboard a US-registered vessel in international waters?
- A.Any amateur license with an FCC Marine or Aircraft endorsement
- B.Any FCC-issued amateur license (correct answer)
- C.Only General class or higher amateur licenses
- D.An unrestricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit
WhyOperating an amateur station aboard a US-registered vessel in international waters requires nothing more than any FCC-issued amateur license. §97.5 only requires that the person operating an amateur station aboard a US-registered vessel in international waters hold any FCC-issued amateur license, there's no separate marine or aircraft endorsement, and no minimum license class beyond whatever privileges the operator's own class already carries, answer B. An unrestricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit is a different FCC credential entirely and isn't what this rule asks for.
