Extra exam question E1A06
Subelement E1, COMMISSION RULES· Group E1A · 47 CFR §97.303(h)(1)
What is the required transmit frequency of a CW signal for channelized 60 meter operation?
- A.At the lowest frequency of the channel
- B.At the center frequency of the channel (correct answer)
- C.At the highest frequency of the channel
- D.On any frequency where the signal’s sidebands are within the channel
WhyA CW signal in channelized 60 meter operation must be transmitted at the center frequency of the assigned channel. Because 60 meters is channelized rather than a continuous sub-band, §97.303(h)(1) requires that a CW signal be transmitted so that the actual signal, not just the low edge of a tuning range, sits at the center frequency of the assigned channel, answer B. Placing the signal at the channel's low or high edge, or anywhere the sidebands merely fit inside the channel, isn't how the channelized 60-meter rules work, they're built around a fixed center frequency for every emission type used there.
